Say NO to mafia as a worldwide Italian brand

Il problema

The recent lavish funeral of a mafia boss from the Casamonica family in Rome sparked international interest. The event showed how mafia relies on symbols in order to declare its power and parade its existence.

Mafia is increasingly becoming an Italian brand on a global scale, with numerous businesses, as well as products and gadgets sold throughout Europe are inspired by symbols that pay tribute to this ruthless criminal organization.

Finding shops selling t-shirts, figurines and all kinds of gadgets inspired by mafia symbolism and by mafia stereotypes is nowadays all too common in all Sicilian and Italian tourist locations.

Are these the souvenirs we wish tourists to remember us by?

Say NO to mafia as a worldwide Italian brand.

Alarmingly, what is even more widespread is the indifference to such behaviours, the unawareness that they are far from harmless. In fact, they gradually raise the acceptance of lawlessness as a way of life, even among young generations.

These activities are nothing but offences

to all families of mafia victims, magistrates, police forces, journalists and associations who dedicate their lives to defeat mafia. They also are a means to expand an unacceptable culture of lawlessness.

Let’s start little by little

We invite you to join the appeal of a vast number of honest Italians who indignantly scream “I am not a Mafioso”, and who demand national and Europeans laws to ban the running of businesses that quote mafia symbols, and to prohibit the sale of products which glorify mafia and denigrate anti-mafia organizations, thus contributing to the acceptance of lawlessness culture.
