The time has come for change in Columbus. It's only September, and after an embarrassing loss to Oregon at home, Ohio State's season is over. All of the hard work, sacrifices and dedication put in by so many has been erased in a single afternoon of ineptitude and incompetence, directed by defensive coordinator Kerry Coombs. There has never been any period of time during his tenure in which anyone felt confident he was the man for the job, and so far, all he has done is fail. He has been nothing but a liability, an obstacle a highly talented offensive unit must overcome. The September 11th Oregon debacle was the breaking point. Enough is enough.

Since the moment he became a member of the staff, Coombs has proven to be utterly incapable of fielding a competent defensive unit. His schemes are filled with gaping, obvious flaws. His schemes are so sophomoric and brainless that teams can defeat them with only a few simple plays that they run over and over again. He is incapable of making in-game adjustments. He is incapable preparing his unit for any kind of offensive attack that does not involve the opposing offense jogging in a straight line into the line of scrimmage. A Kerry Coombs defense cannot stop the run. A Kerry Coombs defense cannot stop the pass. A Kerry Coombs defense most definitely cannot stop the quarterback run. While he recruits well, he is not smart enough to translate Ohio State's numerous blue chip recruits into successful players on the field.

If Coombs remains in his position as defensive coordinator, Ohio State will never be able to compete for national championships. Kerry Coombs is a liability, and every day he remains on the staff, his endless stream of excuses and insulting amateurism weaken a once proud tradition of excellence. Kerry Coombs has no place at an elite institution like Ohio State; a mid-tier high school team is a perfect fit.

Ohio State is an elite football program with the resources to hire the best. Now is the time to rid the team of their greatest handicap, and let the search for a suitable replacement begin.
