The digging has begun. Only a few of these 3000+ sacred trees are due to be transplanted.  

These are important because of their cultural heritage and the environmental services they provide through their ecological functions, which are currently not valued.  They are an important feature of tourism for pilgrims and fall within the proposed Tungarehswar Wildlife sanctuary buffer zone.
