District Magistrate Releases Payments

A month after more than 4112 signed Chunnu’s petition the two teachers, Ramdeo Soren and Pushpa Hansda were paid their dues.

They thanked people who took action and the DM through another Video Volunteer video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqnARiLFOAg

Not only was  DM Manish Ranjan, amazed by the action taken by thousands of concerned Indians in such a short time period -- he was very inspired by the public pressure.

So how did we win? After Chunnu shared his video on Change.org, within a week -- over 4000 people signed the petition, hundreds called the DM  and asked him to take the necessary action. A week later, the DM wrote formal letters to the Chief Minister of Jharkhand, surveyed the village and mobilised village community to help the Govt. release a sum of INR 90,000 released to each teacher.

It’s been 4 years since Pushpa Hansda and Ramdeen Soren were paid for teaching in a Government School in Jharkhand.

These two dedicated teachers have worked non-stop despite the lack of pay. The school has not been shut even for a day. They even provide mid-day meals to each and every student at the school.

The video made by a Video Volunteer Community Leader tells the story of these teachers watch it and share this video and sign the petition. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b7CNNSDxd_Q

The last time the two teachers received their pay was on the 26th of July, 2008.

' The name of the school is Nav Prathmik Vidyalay, Birakhap, Post Charhi, block Churchu, Zila Hazaribagh. '

Four years since, the teachers have been fulfilling their every commitment to the students and the school - they are teaching, doing the required administrative work, providing mid-day meals but inspite of over 50 complaints to the District Collector, they have not received their salary.

The teachers are caught between their responsibilities and keeping the stoves lit at home. It is testament to their dedication and pure belief that the education of the children has not suffered.

The state of Jharkhand has some of the lowest literacy rates and highest school dropout rates in the country. The miserable lives of teachers Ramdeen Soren and Puspha Hansdsa is proof of the government's negligence towards education in the state of Jharkhand.

People responsible for non-payment must be punished and that widely publcised to deter others from similar apathy
