Independent research in Russia will soon be history.

The Russian Duma is going to pass a bill that removes independence from the Academy of Sciences (RAS), established by Peter the Great in the 18th century.

The bill about “reform of Russian Academy of sciences” means that in the future institutions, projects and funding will be controlled by a group of officials from the Ministry of Science and Education.

Science must be independent if there is to be progress in society!
