The INSS is one of the most influential Israeli military institutions that shapes public discourse on issues of Israel's "national security", which indicates its responsibility for envisioning and formulating all the war crimes committed by the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF). Furthermore, the director of the INSS, Amos Yadlin, is an ex-general in the IOF who served for years as the head of the Israeli Military Intelligence Directorate (Aman), and played a leading role in war crimes committed in Gaza in 2008/2009 and in the Mavi Marmara massacre.
