Require Stronger Food Seller Verification and Safety Standards on DoorDash
The Issue
A routine delivery-related interaction should never become a public safety concern.
I experienced a serious incident connected to a DoorDash seller/pickup where a firearm was pulled during the interaction. DoorDash did respond to me as the impacted person, and I want to be clear that this petition is not claiming they ignored me personally.
The larger concern is what this incident exposed.
When food is sold through a major platform like DoorDash, the public assumes there is a certain level of verification, safety, and accountability behind that seller. But when sellers are allowed to operate from non-commercial, home-based, or unclear pickup locations, there are more variables that customers and Dashers cannot see or assess.
Dashers cannot inspect a cooking space. Customers cannot verify cleanliness, storage, food handling, licensing, or whether the location is appropriate for public food sales. And when a pickup environment becomes unsafe, the risk does not only affect the person standing at the door. It affects the seller, the Dasher, nearby residents, neighbors, children, and the surrounding community.
Bullets have no designated target.
This petition is not anti-small business. It is pro-safety, pro-transparency, and pro-accountability. Going through the process of operating from a licensed commercial location creates structure, oversight, and standards that help protect the public. While no system is perfect, commercial requirements can reduce some of the safety risks that come with informal or unverified selling environments.
I am asking DoorDash and local officials to review how food sellers are verified before being allowed to sell through the platform, especially when food is prepared or picked up from non-commercial locations.
We are calling for:
- Stronger verification of food sellers on DoorDash
- Clear standards for whether sellers may operate from home-based or informal locations
- Confirmation that sellers are operating in legally compliant spaces
- Better food safety transparency for customers and Dashers
- Stronger escalation procedures for reports involving weapons, threats, unsafe pickup locations, or food safety concerns
- Safety reviews when a seller location is connected to credible public safety concerns
- Platform consequences when a seller or associated person creates a serious safety risk
- Stronger protection for Dashers, customers, sellers, and surrounding communities when serious safety concerns are reported
This petition is being organized as part of a larger public accountability effort connected to the Behind-the-Scenes Crew and the Friends of the Frank Committee.
By signing this petition, you are not just adding your name to one complaint. You are joining a community-supported effort to push for safer food delivery systems, clearer seller verification, and stronger public safety standards. Supporters will be able to follow public updates, next steps, and community conversations connected to this petition through the Behind-the-Scenes Crew and related SharnyP Safe Space updates.
This is about protecting Dashers, customers, sellers, and the community. DoorDash can support individual victims and still have room to strengthen the system that allowed the risk to happen in the first place.
