William Bell is an American soul singer and songwriter renowned for his significant contributions to the genre. Born in Memphis, Tennessee, Bell gained prominence with his 1961 debut single "You Don't Miss Your Water." His career highlights include the 1968 UK Top 10 hit "Private Number," a duet with Judy Clay, and the 1976 US Top 40 hit "Tryin' to Love Two," which also reached No. 1 on the R&B chart. Following the death of Otis Redding, Bell released "A Tribute to a King," a well-received memorial song. In addition to his music career, Bell has served as a Councilmember for District 12 in New Castle County and was the Chief of the 911 Emergency Communications Center for the New Castle County Department of Public Safety.
