Don't make domestic violence victims pay to stay safe

This summer, I got a phone call that nobody wants to receive; on the other end of the line between sobs I heard, "He beat me up." My sister had been attacked and beaten by her boyfriend and was in the emergency room.   Without even putting shoes on her feet, she quietly escaped their house in the middle of the night with nothing but her car key. Because he had taken her phone she went to a small pub around the corner to call her daughter, who lives 3 hours away and then drove there for help. Her glasses were broken, her nose was broken, her ribs were cracked, her heart was broken - she knew this was the beginning of a long and difficult journey to reclaim her life.    After the initial shock and urgent care treatment, my sister began to take the necessary steps to keep herself safe and get away from her abusive partner.   As a couple, they were also business partners owning a mobile car mechanic service; it was her only source of income. She booked the appointments and ran the billings. They used her credit to secure a small loan, credit cards and bank accounts. Everything was joint or in the business' name, which meant her abuser had access to all of the accounts.  One of the first things she tried to do was cancel their shared contracts with Verizon Wireless - ending the contract was a complicated but extremely necessary step. If Verizon would not end the contracts, it meant that her abusive boyfriend would have continued access to all of her phone records and would know who she was calling and most horrifically, where she was calling from. My sister's life and safety, like many other survivors’, depended on being able to stay away from her abuser. She was shocked when Verizon informed her it would be $500 to end these contracts and stay safe. She had no money – he had taken everything from her.  Not only was she emotionally shaken, but because of Verizon’s policies she would have to pay extra money to keep herself safe.   After a long battle, Verizon finally waived my sister's fees, but thousands of other victims of abuse are in her shoes right now, facing the choice between safety at a huge cost and continued danger. One in four women and one in nine men are victims of domestic violence. An estimated 1.3 million women are victims of physical assault by an intimate partner every year.  It takes so much courage to step out of an abusive relationship, seek help and start over. And Verizon Wireless knows it. They even have programs to help victims of domestic violence, like HopeLine.  But Verizon Wireless is punishing these customers by charging an early termination fee, even when the contract must be broken because the abusive partner is in jail or a court has ordered a restraining order. They can and should do better.  Please sign my petition asking Verizon Wireless to create a policy that does not punish victims of domestic violence for taking the brave steps necessary to keep themselves safe. Verizon should not charge fees for early termination of contracts if they are because the person has been a victim of domestic violence.

Stop the Delay on Donations to Japan

Around the world, people like you and me are responding in any way we can to help Japan. But one of the easiest ways to help - texting to give by mobile - actually isn't the help it sounds like. During the response to Haiti, cellphone companies processed mobile donations to relief organizations right away. But for Japan, they aren't making this same exception and it could take as much as 90 days for donations to reach people in need. Please help convince them to immediately processes donations so donations reach where they are needed now.   For more information visit the mGiving Foundation: "How long does it take for my charity to receive the funds? In response to the Haiti Relief Effort, carriers are remitting  donations immediately to nonprofit organizations.  Generally, the typical time frame for remittance is based upon the billing cycles of the donors and can take, on average, 90 days from time of donation for the charity to receive the funds." Winning this campaign depends on our ability to call on thousands of supporters like you. After signing this petition, please follow us on Facebook - just click 'Like' at the top of the page.

Add beIN Sport to your channel lineup

The new beIN Sport channel has acquired the US television rights to 3 of the top soccer leagues in the world including Spanish La Liga, Italian Serie A, and French Ligue 1. Furthermore, they now carry the rights to US Soccer away world cup qualifiers. While Directv, Dish Network, and Comcast have all agreed to distribute this channel in some shape or form, Verizon fails to listen to their customers who are petitioning them via phone calls, online suggestion boxes, and Facebook page comments. Each week that passes is another week that FIOS ignores their loyal customers.

Verizon Droid Ultra upgrade to the Android 5 Lollipop

When will my device Motorola Droid Ultra XT1080 receive an upgrade to the Android 5 Lollipop? When? The owners of this phone is expected in about a year. It seems that Verizon does not want to update the above-mentioned model. Specify a clear time frame, when there will be an upgrade to the Android 5 Lollipop.

HELP! Include the Veteran's Crisis Line as a default emergency contact in cell phones.

Each day, about 22 veterans commit suicide. Yet, we allow our focus to drift to "causes" of little or no substantial value. By signing this petition, we are going to do what the VA has not been able to do - Put veterans in contact with resources the very moment they need them. The VA spends millions of dollars each year poorly marketing the Veterans Crisis Line and yet complains that it doesn't have enough money to put trained operators on the other end of that line. For this reason, the VA has let our men and women down by restricting access and, when a veteran does call the line, often they are put on hold or sent to voicemail!.... at a time of crisis! By adding the Veterans Crisis Line as an emergency default contact option in cell phones, mobile network operators such as Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, AT&T, and Virgin Mobile USA can place help at the fingertips of nearly every veteran while reducing the money spent by the VA on marketing which may then be reallocated to hire more trained operators. Furthermore, by universalizing access, this method will flood the VA with veterans in need and, for the first time, actually force them to address systemic issues that have for too long plagued our vets. Thank you for your support!

NO Cell Towers Near Our Homes!

Verizon Wireless has made a deal with Scottsdale Ranch to place two “faux cacti”, 30’ high cell towers on Scottsdale Ranch property at the northeast corner of Mountain View Rd and 111th Street, within feet from our home and many other homes. We request a change of proposed location for the following reasons: RADIATION.  We are raising our three young children in this home, and these two 30’ tall antennas will be just a few feet away from our backyard and our pool, where our children play every day.  It is just too close.  There are 20 children who live within feet from the proposed location.  There are studies which show that people living in proximity of cell towers had three times the normal cancer risk and documented an unusually high level of complaints of “extreme fatigue, memory loss, headaches, sleep disorders, depression, skin problems, hearing loss and cardiovascular problems.”      We do not want to take any risk, especially when it comes to the health of our children.  We have also heard the argument that having towers nearby is no worse than talking on the phone.  We do not plan to hold cell phones to the heads of our children 24 x 7. REAL ESTATE DEVALUATION.  If we would have known about this proposal earlier this year, before buying our home, we would have reconsidered buying a home 15’away from two cell towers.  There are potential buyers like us, who just don’t want 30’ “towering” antennas that close to their home and kids, and that will impact the value of our home negatively. Simply ask yourself if you would prefer to purchase a home which has cell towers looming over it, or one which does not.  AESTHETICS.  We will be able to see these twin 30’ structures from essentially everywhere in our backyard and pool.  Even though these towers will be constructed as “faux” cacti, they would not look like real cacti, especially at the height of 30’.  One of the reasons we bought our home is for the beauty of the surrounding landscape.    EXISTENCE OF AN ALTERNATIVE WIN-WIN SOLUTION:    There are so many options; there is plenty of space available to move the towers further away from our property.   By accommodating our request to changing the towers’ location we could reach a win-win situation: the constructor will finish the project without any other opposition, Verizon will improve its cell network as planned, and my family and our neighbors, will raise our children without fear of any potential health problems that may affect them in the future and we will not be forced to look at fake “towering” landscaping.   We request Verizon to listen to us, their customers, and respect our needs, which do not include additional service strength. Our community should not be a stepping stone for Verizon’s future business plan growth.

I want FiOS in Havre de Grace

The 14,000+ residents of the City of Havre de Grace, Md. (21078) would like the option to access other internet service providers. We want Verizon FiOS to provide us an alternative to Comcast Xfinity -- the only real option as of 2015. Verizon FiOS service is not available in the 21078 zip code. Those residents signing this petition agree to consider FiOS services for internet, and maybe even cable and phone. This is a city that defended itself and rebuilt after being burned to the ground in the War of 1812. Its the duck decoy capital of the world. It has one of the most beautiful vistas in the Mid-Atlantic, situated at the mouth of the Susquehanna River, where it meets the Chesapeake Bay. It is the birthplace of baseball Hall of Famer Cal Ripken. And it is home to a passionate community of volunteers, seeking to provide a better life for their families. They deserve better internet and cable service. I want Verizon FiOS in Havre de Grace.

Allow Google Wallet Tap To Pay To Function On Their Networks

Isis mobile payment system is a joint venture involving the companies listed below which also includes Discover network and Barclaycard US. Nearly one year after Isis was founded AT&T, Verizon Wireless and T-Mobile announced that they will invest more than $100 million dollars in Isis. Around the time when Isis was founded the only other app that had such tap to pay features was Google Wallet which went by Google Checkout. Google Wallet has been blocked by the majority of carriers since it was released. The carriers would claim that Google Wallet was not secure because of certain technological features which was not true. At the time Verizon announced Isis as a partner they trumped up the same technological features they once dismissed about Google Wallet. At that time many Android phones had the secure element built in and would work properly with Google Wallet tap to pay features but carriers continued their misrepresentation of these functions. They also blocked users from downloading the Google Wallet app from the Google Play Store. Google fought back and released an updated version that allowed users to download the app but tap to pay was not working yet.In Android 4.4.2 Google is doing the host card emulation where secure element is not part of the equation any longer. This means Google Wallet tap to pay will work on any NFC capable device that was running 4.4.2.But..The carriers stepped again and are blocking the service because of their investment in Isis.Visa, MasterCard and American Express have been in court with each other in the past because of Amex not being allowed to process transactions on the Visa/MasterCard network. In the end Amex received billions in compensation and were allowed on the Visa MasterCard network. Yet, they turn around and pull the same big business crap.LG, HTC and Samsung are releasing new Android 4.4.2 updates to their top tier devices and will be standard on their recently announced flagship devices. The number of devices that Isis and their partners are blocking must be over 100 million plus devices which equates to end users who are being blocked from the choice of what tap to pay app they choose to use. Instead of choice our only option if we want to use tap to pay is Isis. This is a blatant violation of anticompetitive behavior. A group of compqnies are blocking their one and only competitor and are creating an environment for a monopoly to take place. This is no longer about blocking a single feature of an app. We must not have are freedom of choice be taking away on a device we own.A wide spread of Android 4.4.2 updates is about to be distributed and all the Isis partners are ready to count the profits they will be making from their anticompetitive behavior. So I , along with everyone who signs this petition ask Isis and all their partners to give us our choice of what app we would like to use. #isis#americanexpress#visa#mastercard#chase#wellsfargo#discover #discovernetwork#barclyscardus#att#T-Mobile#Verizon
