Don't make domestic violence victims pay to stay safe

This summer, I got a phone call that nobody wants to receive; on the other end of the line between sobs I heard, "He beat me up." My sister had been attacked and beaten by her boyfriend and was in the emergency room.   Without even putting shoes on her feet, she quietly escaped their house in the middle of the night with nothing but her car key. Because he had taken her phone she went to a small pub around the corner to call her daughter, who lives 3 hours away and then drove there for help. Her glasses were broken, her nose was broken, her ribs were cracked, her heart was broken - she knew this was the beginning of a long and difficult journey to reclaim her life.    After the initial shock and urgent care treatment, my sister began to take the necessary steps to keep herself safe and get away from her abusive partner.   As a couple, they were also business partners owning a mobile car mechanic service; it was her only source of income. She booked the appointments and ran the billings. They used her credit to secure a small loan, credit cards and bank accounts. Everything was joint or in the business' name, which meant her abuser had access to all of the accounts.  One of the first things she tried to do was cancel their shared contracts with Verizon Wireless - ending the contract was a complicated but extremely necessary step. If Verizon would not end the contracts, it meant that her abusive boyfriend would have continued access to all of her phone records and would know who she was calling and most horrifically, where she was calling from. My sister's life and safety, like many other survivors’, depended on being able to stay away from her abuser. She was shocked when Verizon informed her it would be $500 to end these contracts and stay safe. She had no money – he had taken everything from her.  Not only was she emotionally shaken, but because of Verizon’s policies she would have to pay extra money to keep herself safe.   After a long battle, Verizon finally waived my sister's fees, but thousands of other victims of abuse are in her shoes right now, facing the choice between safety at a huge cost and continued danger. One in four women and one in nine men are victims of domestic violence. An estimated 1.3 million women are victims of physical assault by an intimate partner every year.  It takes so much courage to step out of an abusive relationship, seek help and start over. And Verizon Wireless knows it. They even have programs to help victims of domestic violence, like HopeLine.  But Verizon Wireless is punishing these customers by charging an early termination fee, even when the contract must be broken because the abusive partner is in jail or a court has ordered a restraining order. They can and should do better.  Please sign my petition asking Verizon Wireless to create a policy that does not punish victims of domestic violence for taking the brave steps necessary to keep themselves safe. Verizon should not charge fees for early termination of contracts if they are because the person has been a victim of domestic violence.

Stop the Delay on Donations to Japan

Around the world, people like you and me are responding in any way we can to help Japan. But one of the easiest ways to help - texting to give by mobile - actually isn't the help it sounds like. During the response to Haiti, cellphone companies processed mobile donations to relief organizations right away. But for Japan, they aren't making this same exception and it could take as much as 90 days for donations to reach people in need. Please help convince them to immediately processes donations so donations reach where they are needed now.   For more information visit the mGiving Foundation: "How long does it take for my charity to receive the funds? In response to the Haiti Relief Effort, carriers are remitting  donations immediately to nonprofit organizations.  Generally, the typical time frame for remittance is based upon the billing cycles of the donors and can take, on average, 90 days from time of donation for the charity to receive the funds." Winning this campaign depends on our ability to call on thousands of supporters like you. After signing this petition, please follow us on Facebook - just click 'Like' at the top of the page.

If Net Neutrality Is Repealed, I Will Cancel My Internet Service With My ISP

Net Neutrality protects the internet by keeping it fair, open, and treated as an essential utility.  If Net Neutrality is repealed, this allows our Internet Service Providers to charge us for browsing to specific sites and allows them to block certain sites as well.Since lawmakers fail to hear the voice of the people and let money influence their decisions, let's hit them where it hurts. We need to make a strong stance by cancelling our Internet Services if this passes.  This is the only way to show them that we will not tolerate this type of disregard for public interest. If you are willing to take a strong stance like this, please sign and we can show them the financial impact of poor policy.

Add beIN Sport to your channel lineup

The new beIN Sport channel has acquired the US television rights to 3 of the top soccer leagues in the world including Spanish La Liga, Italian Serie A, and French Ligue 1. Furthermore, they now carry the rights to US Soccer away world cup qualifiers. While Directv, Dish Network, and Comcast have all agreed to distribute this channel in some shape or form, Verizon fails to listen to their customers who are petitioning them via phone calls, online suggestion boxes, and Facebook page comments. Each week that passes is another week that FIOS ignores their loyal customers.

No Cell Tower Steps from Our Homes! #GETTHECELLOUT #STOPVERIZON #STOPHORIZONTOWER

REACTunite.org (Rural Eagle Against Cell Towers) is a quickly formed group of Eagle, ID residents that have been jolted by the news of our neighbors who signed a lease agreement with Verizon, for a cell tower, which will be completely surrounded by thriving residential neighborhoods, with homes literally STEPS away.  THE PROPOSED TOWER MARKER IS 25 STEPS FROM THE CLOSEST PROPERTY LINE, AND 80 STEPS FROM NEAREST HOME! THIS DOES NOT ACCOUNT FOR THE 50x50 FOOT FENCE ENCLOSURE PLACED WITHIN APPROX. 20ft OF OUR PROPERTY LINES! This intrusive tower will be too close for comfort for many of us right next to it, forcing us to live with it or move.  Ada County Planning and Zoning Commission has a choice to hear the voice of it's citizens and DENY the application. Public Hearing HAS BEEN EXTENDED and will take place October 18th, 2018. While we are not opposed to, AND FOR  improved telecommunications, there are much less controversial & intrusive areas for such development where safe placement is a safe distance AWAY FROM EAGLE HOMES.  We have started this petition & ask that you sign to: 1.  Tell ADA COUNTY PLANNING & ZONING COMMISSION TO DENY THE CONDITIONAL USE PERMIT required to erect this tower on RESIDENTIAL ZONED PROPERTY and to Respect & Protect City of Eagle Property Owner's Investments, Privacy, Quality of Life, Safety & Health, and any future Treasure Valley Citizens threatened by such.  Reminding them that they have plenty of grounds for Denial in this particular matter, and can exercise County Legislative Rights for it's people. 2.  Tell POWDER RIVER DEVELOPMENT, LLC of Eagle, in partnership with HORIZON TOWER, LLC of California on behalf of VERIZON, to MOVE THE TOWER TO NON-RESIDENTIAL ZONED PROPERTY, and hold them accountable for providing MISLEADING information to the homes within 1,000ft of this proposed site, including but not limited to conflicting information on date, time and place of initial "community meeting", sending an outdated satellite map over 6 yrs old that in NO way depicts our current thriving residential neighborhoods, document discrepancies stating heights ranging from 65’-93’.  Site placement markers not matching geo coordinates, point of access, etc... 3.  Tell the TAYLOR FAMILY, OWNERS OF 2557 N. SKY VIEW LANE, EAGLE, ID that moving to our beautiful state and misusing their residential property for business and financial gain at the expense of the City of Eagle, ID residents is not OK, and to PLEASE RECONSIDER the impact of their decision. THE PROPERTY OWNERS DO NOT LIVE ON PROPERTY WHICH IS ZONED ADA COUNTY, NOT CITY OF EAGLE.  THE PROPERTY OWNERS (whom several of us had good relationships with) DISCREETLY SIGNED A LEASE WITH VERIZON IN DECEMBER 2017 FOR A MONTHLY LEASE PAYOUT AND NEVER SAID A WORD. We are not overstating the issues below.  All information is readily available online and quite telling. 1.      We will take a DECREASE IN OUR PROPERTY VALUE!   Most recent online information accounts for 10-20% decrease, and more, the closer you are to the tower.  Opposition can and will continue to say otherwise, but there is no question that installation of this facility at this site will impact property values of homes directly surrounding it.  Because of the intense and on-going controversy surrounding such sites and the stigmas attached thereto, it will be increasingly more difficult for sellers to maintain their current level of pricing in the area.  Wireless cellular towers and base stations are listed in the “50 Environmental Hazards to Avoid When Buying, Selling or Maintaining a Home" (The Home Environmental Source Book).  And the location of this tower must be disclosed to potential buyers just as with any other potential hazard in the area or they can be sued. 2.      Additionally, the ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT in our rural area includes disruption to animal and bird migration patterns, and loss of habitat.  3.      Apart from, and in addition to the unknown health and environmental concerns, cell towers become EYESORES (even when falsely made to look like trees).  Unfortunately, this one will stand alone in a property of weeds, enclosed by a 50x50 fence with no chance of blending into or hiding from views. 4.      NOISE NUISANCE from AC units & generators, INVASION of PRIVACY as workers will have clear shots into windows of homes and yards. 5.      Last buy definitely not least are the ample disturbing publications in recent research by our top world renowned scientists and doctors over the UNKNOWN HEALTH RISKS of long-term effects of exposure to cell towers which emit high-frequency radio waves, or microwaves.  We do know, the closer you are, the greater the danger.  The microwaves from cell phone towers have been shown to interfere with your body’s own EMFs, causing a variety of potential health problems, including Headaches, Memory loss, Cardiovascular stress, Low sperm count, Birth defects, and Cancer 1.  SIGN THIS PETITION AND SHARE ON SOCIAL MEDIA. 2.  GO TO www.reactunite.org for all information on status of tower, what you can do to get involved and make your voice heard, schedule of meetings, and JOIN us as we plan to accelerate any means to convince them to do what is right, inclusive of, but not limited to organized peaceful protests, petition appropriate governmental entities, engage media and pursue legal action. 3.  SHOW UP AT THE NEW ADA COUNTY PUBLIC HEARING DATE:  OCTOBER 18th, 2018 at 6pm in the Commissioners Main Hearing Room #1235 (first floor), 200 W Front St, Boise, ID TOGETHER WE WILL FIGHT FOR OUR RIGHTS AS PROPERTY OWNERS TO DEFEND OUR MOST IMPORTANT INVESTMENT, OUR HOMES AND OUR FAMILIES LIVING WITHIN THEM.

Request a cell phone tower be built for the Lisbon/Bath/Lyman/Landaff NH Area

The health, welfare, social activities, business economics and public SAFETY will all be enhanced by building a new cell phone tower in the Lisbon/Bath/Lyman/Landaff NH area.  Coverage in this area is a SAFETY necessity. There have been car, snowmobile, and ATV/UTV accidents where people who need help can't get it or help is delayed due to poor coverage.  Better cell phone coverage will eliminate or reduce delays in emergency responses.Increased cell phone coverage will enable controlled economic growth for new and present businesses in the community.  US Route 302 is having increased usage by commercial traffic. Emergency Crews are now utilizing cellular data to keep in contact with dispatch, and other helping departments. Cellular connectivity will allow us to pull up critical building information, such as pre-plans, locations of hydrants, locations of hazardous material etc.  The closest tower to Lisbon/Bath/Lyman/Landaff  is a little over 10 miles away. There has been multiple request submitted by individuals, and town officials requesting a Verizon tower, but we have had no luck. We will continue to try other cell companies and hope they will not continue to overlook all requests for the area. Please join us in our quest to have a new cell phone tower built for our community!

Verizon Droid Ultra upgrade to the Android 5 Lollipop

When will my device Motorola Droid Ultra XT1080 receive an upgrade to the Android 5 Lollipop? When? The owners of this phone is expected in about a year. It seems that Verizon does not want to update the above-mentioned model. Specify a clear time frame, when there will be an upgrade to the Android 5 Lollipop.

HELP! Include the Veteran's Crisis Line as a default emergency contact in cell phones.

Each day, about 22 veterans commit suicide. Yet, we allow our focus to drift to "causes" of little or no substantial value. By signing this petition, we are going to do what the VA has not been able to do - Put veterans in contact with resources the very moment they need them. The VA spends millions of dollars each year poorly marketing the Veterans Crisis Line and yet complains that it doesn't have enough money to put trained operators on the other end of that line. For this reason, the VA has let our men and women down by restricting access and, when a veteran does call the line, often they are put on hold or sent to voicemail!.... at a time of crisis! By adding the Veterans Crisis Line as an emergency default contact option in cell phones, mobile network operators such as Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, AT&T, and Virgin Mobile USA can place help at the fingertips of nearly every veteran while reducing the money spent by the VA on marketing which may then be reallocated to hire more trained operators. Furthermore, by universalizing access, this method will flood the VA with veterans in need and, for the first time, actually force them to address systemic issues that have for too long plagued our vets. Thank you for your support!
