Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick is an American businesswoman and politician serving as the U.S. Representative for Florida's 20th congressional district, a position she has held since winning a special election in 2022. Her district includes many Black-majority areas in and around Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach. A dedicated member of the Democratic Party, she succeeded the late Alcee Hastings. Cherfilus-McCormick holds a Juris Doctor degree from St. Thomas University and a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Government from Howard University. Her professional career includes roles such as Vice President of Operations and Chief Executive Officer at Trinity Health Care Services, Inc., as well as Assistant Project Manager at New York City Transit.
