Jonathon Acosta is an American politician and academic serving as a member of the Rhode Island Senate for the 16th district, a position he has held since January 5, 2021, after being elected in November 2020. Acosta has a strong academic background, holding multiple degrees from Brown University, including a Master's in Urban Education Policy, a Master's in Sociology, and a Bachelor's in Ethnic Studies. He completed his high school education at Coral Reef Senior High School. His professional experience includes roles as a teacher in Miami-Dade County Public Schools and Blackstone Valley Prep Mayoral Academy, where he also served as Dean of Culture. Additionally, Acosta has experience in local government as a council member for the City of Central Falls.
