Jon Tester is an American politician and farmer, born in 1956, who has been serving as the senior United States Senator from Montana since 2007. A member of the Democratic Party, he is the dean of Montana's congressional delegation and has been the only congressional Democrat from Montana since 2015. Tester has also been the only Democrat holding statewide office in Montana since 2021. He served in the Montana Senate from 1999 to 2007, holding roles such as whip, minority leader, and president for his last two years. Before his political career, Tester was a music teacher at Big Sandy Elementary and a member of a board of education. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Music from the University of Great Falls.
