Jimmy Panetta is a U.S. Representative from California, serving as a member of the Democratic Party. Born James Varni Panetta, he represents California's 19th congressional district, which encompasses southeast San Jose and a substantial portion of California's Central Coast, including Monterey and Santa Cruz. Panetta has held office in Congress since 2017, initially representing the 20th district before redistricting. He is the son of Leon Panetta, a former Secretary of Defense and previous holder of the same congressional seat. Prior to his congressional tenure, Panetta worked as a deputy district attorney for Monterey County. Academically, he earned a Bachelor's degree in International Relations from the University of California, Davis, and a JD from Santa Clara University. Additionally, Panetta served as an Intelligence Officer in the United States Navy Reserve.
