Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC) is a non-ministerial department of the UK Government primarily responsible for the collection of taxes, the payment of some forms of state support and the administration of other regulatory regimes such as the national minimum wage. It was established in 2005, following the merger of the Inland Revenue and HM Customs and Excise Department. HMRC is one of the largest government departments and is responsible for ensuring that funds are available for public services, and for helping families and individuals with targeted financial support.
