Hamburgische Bürgerschaft

The Hamburgische Bürgerschaft is the state parliament of Hamburg, Germany. This legislative body comprises 121 representatives who are elected every five years by Hamburg’s citizens using a proportional voting system. The Bürgerschaft carries out important duties such as legislating, controlling the government, and deciding on the budget. It also elects the First Mayor of Hamburg and supervises their administration. The Hamburgische Bürgerschaft combines the functions of a city council and a state legislature, given Hamburg's status as both a city and a state in the Federal Republic of Germany.
