Ban apps like Sarahah where my daughter was told to “KILL HERSELF”

I have been scared, broken and sick to my stomach ever since I read messages about my 13-year-old daughter including, “I hope SHE KILLS HERSELF. Seriously nobody will care”. No one, especially our youth, should have to read messages like this about them. These messages were sent through an app called Sarahah, which can be downloaded for free on both the App Store and on Google Play. Sarahah is an app where people can make anonymous accounts and send anonymous messages to and about others. Because of the anonymous nature of the app, Sarahah has become what users describe as “an app breeding suicides” and “a breeding ground for hate”. My daughter and I have been shattered by this app, and tragically another teenager, in the UK, was found hanged early in 2017 after allegedly being bullied on a similar app called Sayat.Me, which was shut down in May. Both the App Store and Google Play have policies against apps that facilitate bullying, harassment or self harm. Why then is Sarahah still available on these platforms? No parent can stomach this abuse of their children and I cannot even imagine losing my beautiful, sweet girl to suicide. This is why we need to protect our children. I read an article on ‘Dolly’, a 14 year old, who after so much bullying, took her life just after the New Year. Dolly felt that her only way out was suicide. I do not want my daughter or any other to become the next Dolly. App Store and Google Play - help us protect our most vulnerable and ban bullying apps like Sarahah now. #speakevenifyourvoiceshakes #doitfordolly

Call on Google, Amazon, Apple & Facebook to save Net Neutrality!

On December 14th, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is expected to take up a proposal to repeal Net Neutrality. The plan the repeal Net Neutrality is expected to be successful.                      As such, we'd like to extend this opportunity to                Google, Amazon, Apple & Facebook to do something great...Save The Internet!   As the information and business backbone of our society, this decision would be nothing short of horrendous - imagine what your cable company will do when they can treat the internet like cable.    This attack on the free and open internet, one that has allowed the US to lead global information and tech innovation,  will suffocate US innovation and seriously damage the economy.    Therefore we humbly call on Google, Amazon, Apple & Facebook to pull all their services - Gmail, Google Drive, Google Maps, GSuite, Google Docs, Google Drive, Google Calendar, Google AdWords, Google Analytics, etc.; Amazon, Zappos, Amazon Web Services, Audible; iTunes, iDrive, Apple Music, etc.; Facebook, Facebook Messenger, Instagram, etc from any ISP that takes advantage of any rule weakening or destroying Net Neutrality.   We also call on Google, Amazon, Apple & Facebook to vigorously oppose any government to allow ISPs to block, slow, or otherwise discriminate against certain content or applications.                              Imagine a world where we're still all using AOL on dial-up.   Changes to the new rules include any changes to network access or speed, either to the benefit of those who can pay more to have their content move faster than others through the network of an ISP, or to the detriment of those who do not, in effect forcing ISPs to treat themselves as "common carriers".                                                    _______ If Net Neutrality is not upheld, internet service providers (ISPs), generally your cable company, will be able to decide which websites you can see, prevent you from accessing any website they see fit, charge you extra for access to certain pages or services (think $5/mo for Facebook!), and destroy new innovations. Set the doodle on April 24 | Փոխե’ք Google Doodle-ը ապրիլի 24-ին

A Google Doodle is a special, temporary alteration of the logo on Google's homepage. The Armenian Genocide was the Ottoman government’s systematic extermination of its minority Armenian subjects from their historic homeland within the territory constituting the present-day Republic of Turkey. The starting date is conventionally held to be 24 April 1915, the day Ottoman authorities rounded up and arrested hundreds of Armenian intellectuals and community leaders in Constantinople. The total number of people killed as a result has been estimated at between 1 and 1.5 million. This is why we have the responsibility of spreading awareness about the genocide, and why Google should get involved for all humanity.

Bianca’s Law - Stop the spread of violent and graphic images on the internet!

On July 14, 2019, our angel, Bianca was violently  taken from us at the age of 17. The murderer posted extremely graphic and disturbing photos of Bianca’s lifeless body on social media. The photos were uploaded and shared to several social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, YouTube and Discord.  The images remained highly visible on Instagram and Facebook for over a week. Almost a year later, the images are still being shared on social media. Bianca’s family has received numerous direct messages of the pictures on Instagram and Facebook. Further, when users reported the images for violating community guidelines/standards, many users received a response that the images did not violate community guidelines/standards or that the images would remain up with a sensitive content cover.  There are no words to adequately describe the pain, anger and feeling of loss our family is feeling after losing Bianca. To then have our daughter’s death exploited and mocked on social media is a trauma no family should have to endure.  Several of Bianca’s friends found out about her death from seeing the photos.  This exploitation and harassment on the internet cannot continue.  Social media and other internet companies must be held responsible for the content that is allowed on their platforms. We must demand that social media companies put in place software to detect violent and graphic images and block them before they are uploaded and shared.  As a last line of defense, companies must have an adequate number of trained content moderators to ensure community compliance.   Bianca’s Law seeks to preserve free and open speech online while addressing the proliferation of illicit content. The language of the Bill corrects the expansive interpretation and application of Section 230 which provides legal cover for companies that facilitate illicit content. This legislation is based on a recommendation made to Congress by the Department of Justice in 2020. Bianca’s law creates three narrow carve-outs under which internet companies would lose their 230 immunities: 1. A company purposefully acts to promote, solicit, or disseminate illegal content; 2. A company has specific knowledge of content on its site that violates the law; and 3. A company does not remove illegal content after it receives notice of a court ruling that the content violates the law. The legislation also requires internet companies to maintain a public reporting mechanism so that users can flag the company of illegal content on its service. Beyond the Section 230 carve-outs, Bianca’s Law also includes: 1. Social media must be required to immediately disable and suspend accounts of murderers live-posting their murder AND those accounts impersonating the murderer.2. Social media must have, use, and enforce a policy to stop the dissemination of banned (hashed) images in any and all forms.3. Social media must be required to provide a crisis response center to respond in real-time to parents whose children are the victims of crimes on and through their platforms, including but not limited to child sexual exploitation and livestreamed or live-posted murder, rape, and violence. This crisis response center is to serve the purpose of stopping the spread of harmful material and preserving evidence for law enforcement and/or the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.              4. Social media companies must have, use, and  enforce a policy recognizing the intellectual property interest of estates of deceased users. Parents’ Bill of Rights All social media companies must have, use and enforce a policy recognizing a parent’s right to control their deceased minor child’s social media accounts. We also believe that parents must be given control of all their childrens’ social media accounts whether the child is alive or deceased PARENTS BILL OF RIGHTS WITH RESPECT TO A CHILD’S SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNTS 1. Ownership and control of a minor child’s social media account should automatically transfer to the parents or legal guardians of that child upon the death or incapacitation of that child. 2. Any profits made by the social media through the posting of such graphic images should be placed in a “special fund” for victims. The social media companies must not be allowed to profit from the posting of such graphic images. 3. Social media must have a system for monitoring the profits made from postings of such graphic images retroactively to the time when they were ruled as inappropriate. 4. Social Media should not be allowed to “profit” on the viewing of images including but not limited to child sexual exploitation and livestreamed or live-posted murder, rape, and violence. 5. People who download, re-post or send/distribute these images should face criminal and civil penalties Please sign this petition to show lawmakers that we will not tolerate the spread of violent and graphic images on the internet!  We need laws enacted to force companies to protect citizens from the trauma and harassment that Bianca’s family and friends have endured for the past year

Reconsider the new rules regarding children/family videos on YouTube

After failing to comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protect Act (COPPA), Youtube was made to pay a 170 million dollar fine; the largest COPPA fine in history. Due to these privacy violations, the company announced new rules and regulations regarding children's entertainment on their platform on September 4th, 2019.  What does this mean? In the coming months, creators will be required to say if the content they create is made for kids. This will in turn, limit several features on the platform that was originally accessible by everyone. This includes no longer having personalized ads, no matter if an adult is watching the video or not. Personalized ads and monetization allow for many toy and family YouTubers to make it a full time job. Removing this feature will effectively leave many creators without a job.  Other changes that will be implemented will lead to decreased creator/community interaction. Comments will not be allowed on videos along with likes/dislikes, the community tab, and live streaming.  Creators should not be punished for Youtube's inability to comply with COPPA. If these changes go into affect, many online toy and gaming communities that thrived on Youtube including My Little Pony, Littlest Pet Shop, Disney, and Roblox will no longer be able to exist.  Youtube, please consider revising these changes. They will have several unintentional consequences that will effect lives and communities of many who have used your platform for years.
