The Gobierno de Puerto Rico is the governmental body that manages and governs the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, a territory of the United States. The structure of this government is modeled after the U.S Federal system, comprising of three branches: executive, legislative, and judicial. The executive branch is headed by the Governor, who is popularly elected every four years. The legislative branch consists of a bicameral General Assembly, and the judicial branch houses the Supreme Court of Puerto Rico. As a commonwealth, Puerto Rico is subject to U.S federal law; however, it maintains internal self-governance for most local matters.
