It is composed of three branches: the executive, represented by the President who serves as both the head of state and government; the legislative branch, embodied by the bicameral Congress made up of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies; and the judicial branch, led by the Supreme Court of Justice. As a federal republic, Mexico's sovereignty is divided between the federation, headquartered in Mexico City, and the 31 individual states, each with its own constitution and government.
