No Landfill on the banks of Yamuna, Find another site.

Our drinking water will be poisoned if we don’t act now. The East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) is planning to build TWO landfills on the banks of the Yamuna - one at Sonia Vihar (150 acres) and another one at Ghonda Gujran (50 acres), both in active floodplains. This is the most dangerous place to build a landfill. Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has given a nod to the proposal, ignoring several laws such as the Water Act, 1974, The Environment Protection Act, 1986, the Waste Management Rules, 2016, The Ganga Authority Notification 2016, The NGT judgment dated January 13, 2015, in Maily se Nirmal Yamuna case, the DDA Act and The Zonal Plan for Zone O (river zone). Delhi Development Authority has finally allotted the land to EDMC too. Garbage, toxins & heavy metals will flow directly from this landfill into the Yamuna. These toxins will enter our drinking water creating a health crisis.   The Yamuna bank is an active floodplain which drains directly into the river. The area is also highly unstable with seismic activity. Any toxins stored on the banks will spill into the river and poison it. From the Yamuna, the toxins will enter Delhi’s groundwater and water supply, also the fact that the water table is high in these areas and therefore toxic leachate from the landfills is going to pollute the underground aquifers for all times. The water coming to our homes will become dangerous for us to use or consume. We need to make sure this landfill does not come up on the Yamuna banks. The landfill must be shifted to a safer site far away from our water supply. Once the Landfill is built the damage will be done. It will be a bureaucratic nightmare to implement safety measures or shut it down and reverse the damage. We must show the authorities right away that there is massive public opposition to building a landfill on the Yamuna banks.   We must unite now to protect the Yamuna, our water and our health.

Commit to Clearing Up Ghazipur Landfill #CleanTheMess

Every Indian dreams of a house with a view of the mountains. But the view we have every single day is nothing less than a nightmare. We live in a skyscraper overlooking the Mount Everest of garbage dumps: Ghazipur, a massive landfill where all of Delhi’s garbage gets dumped. One news article we read says the landfill is spread as wide as 29 football fields and is nearly as high as the Qutab Minar. While the Qutab Minar is a breathtaking monument, the towers of trash at Ghazipur are making residents in surrounding areas like us gag and hold our breath. The stench of rotting waste is releasing poisonous gases making everyone sick. We can’t even open our windows without vomiting. The toxic air has ruined our air purifiers and caused pipe leakages. Think of what it is doing to our bodies. It’s been 17 years since Ghazipur ran out of space and should have been shut down but the trucks continue to dump waste there. Two years ago, a part of this landfill collapsed, killing 2 people. And still no action. How can a mountain of garbage of such great proportions be invisible to our civic authorities. Save us from this ticking time bomb. We have started this petition because we are sick of falling sick. We are sick of the inaction by authorities. We had given up all hope until we read about an IAS officer in Indore who was covered by the media for clearing up a similar but much smaller landfill under his jurisdiction in 6 months! It gave us an idea of starting this campaign. We’re asking municipal authorities  to bring in IAS officer Asheesh Singh to hold technical consulting workshops for Municipal Corporation workers in Delhi to initiate the process of transforming Ghazipur landfill into a clean, green patch of land. Help us green this landfill which is not only a health hazard for us citizens, but a blot on the global image of our national capital Delhi and on our collective vision of Swachh Bharat. #CleanTheMess #SheVotes2019   Image Credit: https://images.indianexpress.com/2018/05/ghazipur.jpg

Provide Better Training Equipment at the Guru Premnath Akhada, Delhi

“Ladki kya nahi kar sakti hai?”  Many of us have have grown up hearing the opposite of this, the stereotype of 'what can a girl really achieve?' and I was no exception. My father struggled with his job, and we often faced tough financial situations. Inspired by the girls fighting dangals in Haryana, my father also wanted me to train and fight as a wrestler. It was his dream to see one of his children become a famous wrestler and this became my dream too. I started training at the akhada (training centre) near my house in Gokulpur (New Delhi), and have been competing since I was 10 years old. I still remember the day I went with my father to the local grounds to compete, and no one wanted to compete with me as I was a girl. “How can a girl compete with us?” is all I could hear in whispers around me. I finally got one shot - to play one match to prove myself; and I won. I can never forget that feeling. From there on, there was no looking back from there. I went on to win bronze medals at both, the Asian Games 2018 and Commonwealth Games 2018. None of this would have been possible without the support of my father, who made sure I always had everything I required for my training. Unfortunately, not all women have access to all the resources they need to become champion wrestlers. The Guru Premnath Akhada in Delhi, where I train, desperately needs new equipment as most of it is either broken, or rusty. There are around 100 girls aged 8 years and upwards who train there. This is why I am starting this petition asking the Delhi Government for better gym equipment at the Guru Premnath Akhada, so that this akhada can produce many more Commonwealth and Asian Games champs. I come from a village where girls are married off after class 10 and 12. Their families often borrow money to arrange the wedding. If only they used this money to invest in their daughter’s  education, or sports, just like my father did, there will come a day when a girl will be able to fulfil her dreams and choose the life she wants for herself. Sign this petition to help my Akhada get better equipment, to support the training of many more #DangalQueens that every Indian will be proud of. I was also felicitated as part of The Quint's Me The Change initiative.

India stands for Indian manufacturers in these hard times.#LetsbuyINDIAN

We strongly believe that Indian Micro,Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) MUST Get there Due Respect & Strength & Honour. We have initiated a movement to promote Indian manufactured products. To facilitate this movement we have launched an interactive informative platform where sellers selling MAKE IN INDIA products can freely register and promote their products and at same time buyers across the supply chain can come and buy MAKE IN INDIA products.  We have done our bit by building this online platform to bring together MSME who have suffered losses due to dumping of cheap Chinese products and current Covid situation. No one among us is unaware about the JOB Losses due to Covid and brutal killings of our army men in GALWAN.Thus we urge each one of you to support and sign off this petition which will be presented to the Policy Makers.  1 MSME should be exempted from labour laws , inspections and  minor compliances under law for three years. 2 Effective implementation of online single window system, simplifying property registration, acquisition of land , change of land use and easing compliance of various statutory provisions  3 Government should reserve purchases by some sectors/departments/PSU’s for MSME  4 Major digital reforms should be implemented  for MSME such as virtual court proceedings, e-filing online scrutiny etc  5 MSME should be supported by required infrastructure for transportation by increasing the share of railways and waterways etc and improving last-mile connectivity. Let's go for a "GREEN & HEALTHY DIWALI " this time !

Human is turning out to be so selfish . We ,not only disturbing  the nature and its resources,  but also destroying them slowly slowly ! May be , if this keeps going on , that day is not so far away when we will curse ourselves,  we will struggle for food and all basic needs and that might result towards the end of our own.  Many organizations are trying their best to preserve NATURE, the natural life. Similarly our different state governments had also started taking actions ! On this "DIWALI" the festival of happiness,  many State governments like - Rajasthan, Odisha , Sikkim ,West Bengal, Maharashtra , Haryana,  Madhya pradesh,  karnataka have banned the bursting and sales of Fire Crackers.   People might feel bad , but these all actions are taken for nature and their health  benefits. All other state govt. and society should  support it !  CELEBRATE A "GREEN AND HEALTHY" DIWALI THIS YEAR.  Bring Pot Plants , Increase your Gardening Areas, if you are capable of , then Plant TREES as much you can .  For doing this , Use that Money and Savings, that you have planned to spend on Fireworks !  This can be a small step from our side , through  which we can try to HEAL THE NATURE as much as we can . Don't  forget Nature acts as a mother , it always feed us , so wanna gain more , than go for TREES... "Stop using Crackers and Fireworks , Try not to be a polluter , in place , Plant TREES as much as you can , and  be a planter" !!!

Commit to Clearing Up Ghazipur Landfill #CleanTheMess

Dear Citizens, I have launched my verified Decision Maker profile on Change.org. From now on I will be officially engaging and responding to petitions from you. The first petition I have received is from Ms. Seema Mishra and Ms. Parul Mathur to initiate concrete steps to clear and green the Ghazipur landfill. As the Member of Parliament from East Delhi, I wish to convey to them as well as the 1.7 crore users of Change.org India that this issue is a top priority for me, and that's why I decided to address the Ghazipur landfill issue in my maiden Parliament speech. I have therefore taken note of the suggestions made in this online petition and invited Mr. Asheesh Singh, IAS, the Municipal Commissioner of Indore to conduct a knowledge-sharing session for East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) staff. With Swachh Bharat on my mind, I have already met the EDMC Commissioner Ms. Dilraj Kaur. I have been assured complete cooperation in addressing this civic issue to make you proud of your capital city. #SwachhBharatMission Delhi is a part of who I am, and the people, part of who I can become. So I encourage you all to make your voices heard. Tell me your concerns through social media and by starting a petition on Change.org addressed to me. I will do my best to respond. Let's do this! I would like you to remain updated about the work I am doing. Please follow me on Twitter @GautamGambhir Thank you, Gautam Gambhir Member of Parliament, East Delhi
