Europäisches Parlament

The Europäisches Parlament, also known as the European Parliament, is a supra-national political institution that represents more than 500 million people from 27 member countries of the European Union. It is the only directly elected body in the EU and its 705 members are voted in every five years by EU citizens. The Parliament shares legislative power equally with the Council of the EU, entitling it to adopt and amend legislative proposals and to decide on the EU budget. Additionally, it supervises the work of the EU Commission and other EU bodies, and participates in the appointment of the Commission members.
