The Egyptian Government operates as a semi-presidential republic, structured under a mixed parliamentary system where the president holds executive authority while sharing legislative power with the parliament. The Egyptian Constitution, established in 2014, protects the principles of democracy, social justice, the rule of law and individual freedoms. The government is comprised of the legislative House of Representatives, the judiciary, and the executive branch which includes the President and the Prime Minister who heads the Council of Ministers. Local administrative divisions, also known as governorates, control different realms of the government at a regional level, delivering state services and overseeing development projects.
