Durham City Council

The Durham City Council serves as the legislative body for the city of Durham, North Carolina. Composed of seven members, including a mayor and a mayor pro tem, the council is responsible for enacting and enforcing city ordinances and regulations, approving the city budget, making land use decisions, and overall leading the city’s government. The council members serve staggered four-year terms, which ensures continuity in city governance. Meetings, held twice a month, are open to the public to promote transparency and allow citizen interaction.
