Doug Smith served as the Martin County Commissioner for District 1 from 2000 until 2024, representing areas including Jensen Beach, Sewall's Point, Hutchinson Island, and Rio. His tenure lasted 24 years, during which he focused on improving the quality of life for residents and addressing community needs through various initiatives. Throughout his career, Smith held significant leadership roles, including serving as Vice Chair of the National Association of Counties' Environment, Energy and Land Use Policy Steering Committee. He was also a past president of the Florida Association of Counties from 2011 to 2012.
