Dade McDade Phelan is an American businessman and politician affiliated with the Republican Party. He serves as the State Representative for District 21 in the Texas House of Representatives, encompassing most of Jefferson and all of Orange and Jasper counties in southeastern Texas. Phelan has been Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives since January 2021, a role he will hold through December 2024. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Government and Business from the University of Texas. His professional background includes positions as a Staff Aide in the Majority Leader's Office at the US House of Representatives, a Legislative Aide at the Texas Senate, and a Partner at Phelan Investments. Additionally, he has experience as a broker and real estate developer.
