D. Scott Smith is a Superior Court Judge in the Cherokee Judicial Circuit, which includes Bartow and Gordon counties in Georgia. udge Smith was appointed by Governor Sonny Perdue in November 2005 and has been re-elected unopposed three times, currently serving his third term. He graduated from West Georgia College with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and a minor in Political Science in 1989. He earned his Juris Doctorate from Georgia State University College of Law in 1992. Before becoming a judge, he served as an Assistant District Attorney in the Atlanta, Piedmont, and Cherokee judicial circuits from 1992 to 1996. He was also an Assistant United States Attorney and received the Department of Justice Director’s Award in 1996. Additionally, he practiced law as an associate and partner at Akin & Tate, LLC from 1996 to 1999. He served as Special Drug Prosecutor for the Cherokee Judicial Circuit from 1999 to 2005.
