Creative Commons is a nonprofit organization that provides free tools and legal frameworks to enable the sharing and use of creativity and knowledge through free legal tools. It aims to overcome legal obstacles to the sharing of knowledge and creativity, creating a balance inside the traditional “all rights reserved” setting that copyright law generally creates. Creative Commons offers a suite of copyright licenses to help creators choose how they want to share their intellectual property with the public while still maintaining control over their work. These licenses make it easier for individuals to use, share, and build upon a work that has been created by someone else.
