Conseil fédéral

The Conseil fédéral, also known as the Swiss Federal Council, is the seven-member executive council that constitutes the federal government of Switzerland and serves as the Swiss collective head of state. All members of the council are elected by the Federal Assembly for a four-year term. Based on the principle of collegiality, the Conseil fédéral is a consensus government, where decisions are made collectively and responsibilities are shared among members, leading to stable governance that reflects Switzerland’s political structure of decentralized federalism.
