Charles Eugene "Chip" Roy is an American attorney and politician currently serving as the U.S. Representative for Texas's 21st congressional district. As a member of the Republican Party, he assumed office on January 3, 2019. Before his tenure in Congress, Roy was the chief of staff to Senator Ted Cruz and served as the first assistant attorney general of Texas. He is also a member and policy chair of the House Freedom Caucus, aligning with the far-right faction of the House Republican Conference. Roy holds a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Texas and earned both a Bachelor’s in Commerce and a Master’s in Management Information Systems from the University of Virginia. His career includes roles such as Senior Advisor to Texas Governor Rick Perry and Special Assistant United States Attorney at the Eastern District of Texas.
