California State Legislature

The California State Legislature is the state legislative body of California, United States. It is a bicameral body consisting of two elements: the California State Assembly, its lower house with 80 members, and the California State Senate, its upper house comprising 40 members. These two divisions jointly create and revise the law for the state of California. Legislators are elected to their positions, with Assembly members serving two-year terms and Senators serving four-year terms, barring term limits. The Legislature convenes annually at the State Capitol in Sacramento.
