John Hugh "Buddy" Dyer is an American politician and lawyer who has served as the Mayor of Orlando since 2003, making him Orlando's longest-serving mayor. A dedicated member of the Florida Democratic Party, Dyer was instrumental in shaping state policy during his tenure as a representative in the Florida State Senate from 1992 to 2002, where he concluded his service as the Senate Democratic leader. His educational background is robust; he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Brown University and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Florida. Before his mayoral career, Dyer worked as an environmental engineer. His long-standing leadership and commitment to public service have made him a prominent figure in Florida politics.
