The Berliner Senat, or the Senate of Berlin, is the executive body governing the city-state of Berlin, Germany. It is composed of the governing mayor and up to eight senators holding ministerial positions, each appointed by the governing mayor. The senators are responsible for different portfolios such as education, health, or finance, while the governing mayor serves as the city's representative and head of government. As Berlin is both a city and a state within the Federal Republic of Germany, the Berliner Senat carries out functions comparable to both a city administration and a state government.
