The Agência Nacional de Vigilância Sanitária (ANVISA) is a Brazilian regulatory body that has been in operation since 1999. Belonging to the Brazilian government, ANVISA is responsible for the regulation and approval of pharmaceutical drugs, sanitary standards and regulation of the food industry. Its mission is to protect and promote public health by ensuring the hygiene, safety, and efficacy of products and services, as well as by monitoring various areas—be it in laboratories, hospitals, ports, or on the market. Its regulations align with international standards and World Health Organization guidelines.
