Andrés Manuel López Obrador, often referred to by his initials AMLO, is a Mexican politician and the current president of Mexico since December 2018. He served as the Mayor of Mexico City from 2000 to 2005 and is distinguished for his socially progressive views. A member of the National Regeneration Movement (Morena), López Obrador was a leading advocate for the rights of the indigenous people and a strong proponent against governmental corruption and inequality. He had twice-contended for the presidency in 2006 and 2012 before securing the position in 2018. His presidential tenure has been characterized by ambitious and controversial policies geared towards social reforms.
