An Taoiseach

An Taoiseach is the prime minister and head of government of Ireland. The position, whose title translates to "chief" or "leader," holds major responsibilities including advising the President to dissolve the Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Oireachtas, Ireland's national parliament. The Taoiseach also confers with government ministers and represents Ireland in international affairs. The term of an Taoiseach is dependent on the confidence of the Dáil and can be removed by a vote of no confidence or upon the loss of a general election. This position plays an integral role in the shaping of Irish policies and legislation.
