Build a Critical Connection for a Bike-able Columbia Pike

The Issue

Columbia Pike is one of Arlington’s least bike-friendly corridors— there aren’t any bike lanes, traffic is heavy, and the bike boulevards on parallel streets are disjointed and disconnected.

With the completion of the new section of 12th St S between Rolfe and Ross Street, built by the Trove development, the south-side Bike Boulevard only has one major gap remaining – Barton to Wayne Street.

With cooperation between the County, the 2400 Columbia Pike developer and the Barkley Condo Association, this gap could finally be closed.  The 2400 Columbia Pike development could provide a well designed bike boulevard along its new East-West Alley, the Barkley Condo Association could grant an easement over a piece of their land connecting to Wayne St & the County could build a trail on that land connecting the alley to Wayne St.

This connection would finally provide a contiguous, safe, low-stress connection along the south side of Columbia Pike for families to bike, eventually connecting to the proposed Hoffman Boston connector trail under 395 through the Country Club to access Pentagon City.
