The Issue
I made this petition to make sure that every American at least age 16 years old and without regard to their current or previous incarceration status are guaranteed the right to vote. This issue affects over 17,000,000 million Americans and we need change now! Please sign and share with others!
Over 17,000,000 Americans are disenfranchised from voting. Seventeen million Americans who represent the most vulnerable and burdened segments of the population.
Decisions being made at every level of government are impacting millions of Americans with no input into the process. Decision which not only impact them in the present but decades well into the future.
Decisions being on issues from access and success in higher education to congressional spending, from prison and jail living conditions and slave wages for employment to school curriculum.
From school shootings to inhumane and unsafe prison conditions are just two poignant and salient reasons America’s youth and incarcerated populations within prisons and jails deserve the unconditional right to vote.
UNITED STATES YOUTH AND IMPRISONED BY THE NUMBERS
According to the 2020 United States Census:
Over 4,000,000 Americans are 16 years of age.
Over 4,000,000 Americans are age 15.
Over 8,000,000 Americans are between the ages of 13 and 14.
Over 1.2 million individuals currently sit in American jails and prisons.
Nationwide, the American electorate--by the millions--have been been barred from participating in the legislative processes that govern their lives do to past convictions.
Today's youth should not continue to be victim to legislative decisions begin made at every level of government from city councils to state legislatures, from school boards to executive branch departments and agencies. Legislative decisions which fill their present-turned-past with despair, endanger their present, undermine their future.
The time is now for the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives to Amend the United States Constitution to guarantee America’s future leaders and human beings which we have allowed to be placed into inhumane, cruel, and unconstitutional conditions to have the right to vote. During the early days of America’s founding the American colonist set forth the noble message “no taxation, without representation.”
Today— the youth and the imprisoned, say “no more victimization or criminalization without representation.”

We write to call on you to introduce and pass a constitutional amendment to the United States Constitution which will guarantee America’s Youth a stake in their future and ensure America’s forgotten are remembered.
PROPOSED AMENDMENT TO THE UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION GUARANTEEING THE RIGHT TO VOTE
Section 1. The Twenty-Sixth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States is hereby repealed.
Section 2. The right of citizens of the United States, who are sixteen years of age or older and without regard to previous or current incarceration status or felony status, to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of age, criminal conviction, or by virtue of being incarcerated.
Section 3. The Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.
