Stop UNSUSTAINABLE Palm Oil Plantations!

Stop UNSUSTAINABLE Palm Oil Plantations!

The Issue

As a twelve-year-old activist, I gladly welcome all support in my passionate goal to improve the world I will grow up to live in. Thank you for helping me succeed, and I hope that you recognize the difference you are helping create.

This petition will be going to the following companies: PepsiCo (owner of Doritos and Frito-Lay); Maltesers; Cheemo; Dove Soap; Nabisco; and Oreos.

Palm oil is an ingredient in many different products, from shampoos to processed food, to makeup supplies; it is the world's most used oil. Although over the past few decades, the demand for palm oil plantations has increased drastically, and has become non-renewable. Such exploitation causes mass deforestationdisplacement of plants and animals, and unjustified human labour.

- Palm oil plantations, altogether, cover about 40 million acres of what used to be thriving, diverse rainforests worldwide.

- Indonesia, one of the largest palm oil harvesters, responsible for about 50% of the productions, is predicted to have its natural forested ecosystems degraded by 2032.

- Rainforest area the equivalent of 300 soccer fields is being pulverized every hour, resulting in the aforementioned displacement of people, wildlife, and forest area, not to mention the hastening of the devastation of the climate change disaster

- It is estimated that every year, between 1,000 and 5,000 orangutans are killed due to palm oil production.

Upon signing this petition, you are advocating for sustainable palm oil plantations. This petition, along with a letter, will be sent to major companies that utilize unsustainable palm oil so they are encouraged to act ethically for a better environmental future.
