Fight for Higher Cannabis Safety and Integrity - I believe in Trust in Testing!
The Issue
Cannabis is now legal in over half of the country. In every state where it can be sold, regulations guide the legal market to ensure the safety and transparency of the supply chain by requiring all products to be lab tested before consumption.
However, bad actor cannabis testing labs and brands have put the trust, health, and safety of consumers at risk in a variety of ways, most often through the practice of lab shopping - sending a sample to many labs until finding the desired result, usually to accomplish one (or a few) nefarious goals:
Potency Inflation - a practice that involves artificially inflating the reported levels of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) in cannabis products. Producers and sellers can make their products appear more potent and desirable by reporting higher THC levels, potentially increasing their profits. However, this practice is misleading to consumers, and it can be dangerous if people consume more THC than they intended.
Compliance Testing Fraud - a practice that involves providing false or incomplete information to regulators, which allows substandard products to reach the market. This can lead to consumers unknowingly consuming cannabis products that may be contaminated or contain harmful chemicals. The consequences of this can be devastating, causing illness and even long-term health problems.
The solution is clear: Today, SC Labs and ACT Laboratories are pleased to announce the Trust In Testing Certification, a set of enhanced national standards for cannabis testing. As the largest cannabis testing labs in the U.S., spanning over nine states and testing thousands of cannabis brands, ACT Laboratories and SC Labs are jointly taking a stand for consumer safety by outlining the most stringent lab quality requirements to ensure brands and consumers can trust their lab testing data. The initiative will help cannabis operators unify their testing protocols across their multi-state footprints, enable brands to build consumer loyalty, maintain investor and customer confidence, and, ultimately, provide safer products to the growing cannabis market.
SC and ACT Laboratories are the founding participating labs in the Trust In Testing Certification. Cannabis brands that want to demonstrate their commitment to quality and provide reliable data may use the Trust in Testing seal on products that have been tested by a Trust in Testing Certified Lab. Similar to the “Certified Organic” seal commonly seen in the produce aisle, the Trust in Testing seal provides a simple way for cannabis consumers to feel confident that the products they are purchasing and consuming have successfully passed all potency and contaminant testing requirements.
