Kenneth Adkins Freedom Project: Innocent Man Should Be Freed or Granted New Trial

The Issue

Kenneth Adkins was wrongfully convicted in 2017 in Brunswick, Georgia, for sexual molestation of two 15 year old youths, even though one of the youths testified that no sex acts ever occurred between Ken and the youths. The prosecutor, embattled former Brunswick Judicial Circuit District Attorney, Jackie Johnson, was likely aware of evidence establishing his innocence, but chose to move forward anyway.  Anything for a guilty verdict. This type of reprehensible prosecutorial misconduct is consistent with allegations of racism and unethical behavior lodged at her in other cases she handled prior to losing her recent reelection bid for Brunswick's top prosecutor.

Because one of the two youths testified that no sex acts ever occurred between Ken and the youths, it all came down to the other supposed victim’s testimony. This other youth testified repeatedly at trial that the very first sex act was a birthday gift from the two youths to Ken presented on his birthday – his 50th birthday on January 22, 2010 to be specific – and that the first sex act happened after Ken had started a new church, Greater Dimensions Fellowship Christian Church, on G Street in Brunswick, Georgia – and that it all happened at a building two doors down from the new church.

Because of this testimony, that the first sex act happened only after Ken started the new church, a key task for the jury to be able to put a date to the alleged  crime (that had supposedly happened 7 years before) was to decide when Ken had actually started the new church. Although not offered at trial by his then-attorney, evidence now in possession of The Kenneth Adkins Freedom Project makes it very clear that the date the new church on G Street started was May 30, 2010 --  over 4 months after Ken's 50th birthday, when he was supposed to have committed the first sex! There are newspaper articles, emails and Facebook posts all from 2010 that back this timeline up.  You can see this timeline evidence at www.thekennethadkinsfreedomproject.com.  There is simply no way that the victim's testimony could be true because the first sex act could not have happened both on Ken's 50th birthday and after Ken started the new church, because the new church wasn't started until 4 months after Ken's 50th birthday!   But the prosecutor had to get the jury to believe that the first sex act occurred on Ken's 50th birthday in 2010 because if the first sex act -- a supposed birthday gift from the two youths to Ken -- happened on any of Ken's birthdays after 2010, no crime would have been committed as the youths would have already reached the age of legal consent.

Considering that the then District Attorney was able to review Facebook posts and LinkedIn pages of other witnesses, is the public really supposed to believe that the prosecutors missed the posts from May and July of 2010 on Ken’s own Facebook page showing that the new church’s first service was May 30, 2010?  Amazingly, this same evidence was missed by Ken’s own defense lawyer at his 2017 trial – even though Ken’s lawyer, who had known Ken for years, had received an email from Ken on May 21, 2010, inviting the lawyer to the new church’s first service!

The new church on G Street moved to another location in the summer of 2011.  So there was only one birthday that Ken actually had while the new church was located on G Street, and that was his 51st birthday on January 22, 2011.  However, the prosecutor herself elicited testimony at trial that there was no opportunity for the sex acts to have occurred on that day. And -- even if -- in the wildest imaginations of the prosecutor, the sex acts had happened on that day, on Ken's 51st birthday, the youths would have already reached the age of legal consent and no crime would have been committed.

Ken has been imprisoned for the past 4 years for a crime he could not have committed.  For a crime he has consistently denied committing. Ken was first convicted in the court of public opinion months before his 2017 trial and over 7 years after when the crime was claimed to have happened. Ken has a motion for new trial which will be heard sometime in 2021.  We are asking for the public's help. You can do that right now, this second, by signing this petition and sharing it to all of your social media sites.  Please help us free Ken so he can go home to his loving and waiting wife Charlotte.  Thank you.
