Let's reopen the debate: ask World Rowing to review the 1984 ban on sliding rigger boats
Il problema
In 1984, FISA (Federation Internationale Societe d'Aviron) banned boats with a fixed seat and sliding riggers. The reason given was cost: clubs and federations, it was argued, could not afford the change.
Forty years later, that reasoning no longer holds. Modern materials and manufacturing have changed what rowing equipment costs and what it can do. Yet the rule has never been publicly re-examined.
We are not asking World Rowing to change the rules overnight. We ask for:
1. A formal technical review of the 1984 ban by the Equipment & Technology Commission;
2. A pilot: demonstration races or an experimental category at selected events;
3. A public report on the findings.
Rowing has always evolved through innovation. If the evidence shows these boats don't hurt the sport, the ban should go.
If you row, coach, or simply love this sport, sign and share. Together we can show World Rowing that the community wants this conversation.
