This is not just a local issue – the neglect of Pitești’s stadium echoes across the footballing world, highlighting how the heritage of the sport can be lost when promises are broken.

Pitești, a city in southern Romania, has long been a symbol of Romanian football. It is the birthplace of Nicolae Dobrin, often described as “the Pele of Europe” during his time — a genius of the game who inspired generations of players and fans. The city’s old stadium proudly carried his name and became an emblem of local and national sporting identity.

Yet today, that proud symbol has been erased. The historic stadium was demolished with the promise from the Romanian Government that a modern arena would rise in its place, honoring Dobrin’s legacy and supporting the new generations of athletes. All administrative procedures have been completed, and there is no legal or technical obstacle to begin construction.

Still, the Government continues to delay and find puerile excuses, refusing to allocate the necessary funds. What remains now in the heart of Pitești is not a stadium, but an empty wasteland where weeds grow, a painful reminder of broken promises and disrespect for the city’s sporting heritage.

A new stadium is not just about football. It is about respecting the past, giving hope to young athletes, and restoring pride to an entire community. Pitești deserves an arena worthy of its history and potential.

We call on the Government of Romania to fulfill its commitment and fund the construction of a new Nicolae Dobrin Stadium.

Vrem un stadion nou la Pitești!

Piteștiul, orașul lui Nicolae Dobrin, a fost mereu un simbol al fotbalului românesc. De aici au plecat generații întregi de jucători care au făcut cinste țării și au demonstrat forța pepinierei argeșene.

Astăzi, comunitatea noastră are nevoie de o arenă modernă, demnă de tradiția fotbalistică a Piteștiului. Un stadion nou nu înseamnă doar fotbal – înseamnă respect pentru trecut, sprijin pentru tinerii sportivi și un loc al mândriei pentru toți locuitorii orașului.

Facem apel către Guvernul României să sprijine construcția unui stadion nou, așteptat de întreaga comunitate piteșteană.
