End the Practice of Using Native American Graves for Landfill & Construction
End the Practice of Using Native American Graves for Landfill & Construction
The Issue
The San Rafael Rock Quarry, at San Pedro Point, rests on land where at least 5 Native American Shellmounds are located. These mounds were first observed and surveyed by anthropologist N.C. Nelson, in 1907-1908, and their locations have been studied by Nelson, for the University of California, Berkeley, exhaustively.
These mounds, however, have been used specifically for landfill and construction for the past 200+ years.
This means that Human Bodies, Skeletons, Bones, Human Remains have been ground up and used for building roads, sewage trenches, the Marin County Civic Center, San Rafael Kaiser, Skywalker Ranch, and Northgate Mall, among hundreds of other places.
This petition seeks to show Marin County, San Rafael Rock Quarry, and their parent corporation The Dutra Group (or, "Dutra Materials") that people actually object to using ground up bodies for landfill and construction. And to put a stop to the continued desecration of a grave yard that's thousands of years old.
It should not matter whose graves are at San Pedro Point. The issue here is that graves and bodies stop being used for landfill and construction. By signing this petition you are agreeing that this is sick and should be stopped.
