As a proud local of Coolangatta, Queensland, I watch in dismay as the integrity of our community is continually threatened by decisions that overlook our rich history and unique way of life. The Gold Coast City Council (GCCC) is proposing the destruction of two significant landmarks that are central to our heritage: the 1962-built Rainbow Bay Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC) and the iconic Snapper Rocks Road. These are not merely structures; they are emblematic of our community's identity and spirit.

The Rainbow Bay SLSC is more than just a building. It is a cornerstone of our local culture, a testament to over half a century of lifesaving, community gatherings, and memorable summers by the sea. This heritage gem has served as a safe haven for beachgoers and holds cherished memories for generations of families. Destroying it would mean erasing an integral piece of what makes Coolangatta home.

Snapper Rocks Road, renowned for its picturesque views and history, is another vital link to our past. It is a favorite amongst locals and tourists alike, offering breathtaking coastal vistas and serving as a gateway to the natural beauty of Snapper Rocks. The road is not only a path but also a tribute to our shared history and heritage—a symbolic connection through time.

Heritage listing these sites with the GCCC is crucial. Equipping them with legal protection ensures that their historical significance is recognized and preserved for future generations. This action aligns with responsible urban planning and honors the desires of residents who cherish their local history and culture.

Standing idly by while our heritage is systematically dismantled is not an option. We must rally together as a community to express our collective voice and insist that the GCCC recognizes and respects our past. By signing this petition, you are not only safeguarding historic landmarks but also contributing to the preservation of our community's identity and legacy.

Join us in urging the GCCC to take decisive action in heritage-listing the Rainbow Bay SLSC and Snapper Rocks Road. Sign this petition and help protect the spirit and story of Coolangatta for present and future generations.

And this petition also advocate’s for the SLSC to be repaired, refurbished or renovated structurally, internally or externally if need be.
