The New Parks Leisure centre has been a facility that has been available to the general public for many years and has been a great resource for the community. Several generations of local people have used the centre over the years and it is hoped that many more will follow.

We are concerned that the pandemic may be used as an excuse to keep the centre closed beyond the governments timeline and today it could actually legally be open if the council would agree.

The centre is the only non private Squash facility in the city that can host county and national team squash games, along with a well managed gym and 2 x swimming pools.

Several clubs/sports operate from the facility and the loss of it has impacted on peoples Health and well being. Many people in this area do not have the luxury of their own transport to travel to alternative centres and have relied on this to keep themselves fit. 

It is used as a meeting place for religious gatherings, club meetings, and many other community events.

I am asking you to forward this to anyone in the local area and beyond to petition for the Leisure centre to re-open as soon as possible as per the Governments road map and to stay open to support the local community.
