Restore Integrity to HAAR and ValleyMLS
The Issue
HAAR & ValleyMLS.com Petition for CEO Removal
Petitioners are requesting the HAAR President to immediately schedule and hold a special-called joint executive session of HAAR and ValleyMLS.com Officers and Directors, to be without any paid staff members to include the CEO being present, for the express purpose of:
1. Reviewing HAAR membership numbers and ValleyMLS.com subscriber numbers year over year and to consider the financial impact that could result if royalty payments being paid to other associations have a significant increase and HAAR membership dues were to significantly decrease.
2. Discussing any and all complaints or concerns that have been raised about the CEO, whether those concerns have been raised privately or publicly. Bring members in to testify, if necessary.
3. Evaluating the CEO performance to date.
4. Reviewing the CEO contract.
5. Considering the impact of removing [Redacted] as the CEO vs. the impact of continuing down the current path.
6. Having candid and open discussions of all above, with all officers and directors having the opportunity to have each of their perspectives heard and understood.
Background:
HAAR, and the wholly owned subsidiary, ValleyMLS.com, are Membership-run and Member-driven organizations. The CEO serves at the pleasure of the president, the leadership team, the board, and the members. Furthermore, it is the fiduciary responsibility of the officers and directors to hold the CEO accountable and to listen to the members when concerns about the CEO are raised.
Issue Statement:
a. Since the hire of the CEO, staff turnover has been at the highest level that has ever been seen within one year in the history of the organizations. Those who are no longer employed by HAAR and ValleyMLS.com are: Keisha Tibbs, Tedesa Handley, Julie Klein, Katy Fitzgerald, Abby Kate Hancock, Zanetta Harmon, Gavin Deason, Whitney Holman, and Christina Hearne, and more, with the potential for more turnover. Our organizations have already lost well over 40 years of experience.
b. Since the hire of [Redacted], Leadership Team turnover has been at the highest level that has ever been seen, with 3 leadership team members resigning within a 12-month time. These volunteers are: Isaac Winkles, Whitney Stringer, and Chris Hulser-Hoover.
c. Since the hire of the CEO, the turnover among the HAAR and ValleyMLS.com boards have been exceptionally high within a short period of time. When an officer or director resigns, a “new” officer or director is recommended by the Leadership team, to include the CEO, to fill the vacancy. These appointments are then confirmed by the board of directors. These appointments, while at times necessary, have allowed those in charge to choose their voting directors and have effectively consolidated power. The volunteers that have been removed or have resigned are: Jerry Bourrell, Beth Medley, Clyent Myrie, Shannon Hoff, Laura Patrick, Travis Stevens, Heather Batchelor, Felicia McGee, and Kynan Donovan. Not on the board, but as ValleyMLS attorney was present at all meetings prior to her resignation: Andrea Gullion.
d. Many committee members in 2024 have been effectively removed from participation. This has happened either by resignation, dissolution of a committee, or a standing committee becoming defunct due to no meetings scheduled are: Bill Stewart, Karen Borden, Sophia Moore, Amy Thrasher, Sydney Gunter, Darla Bunker, Jeff York, Shannon Hoff, Dee James, Sharita Whitehead, Sherry Dinges, Jennifer Owens, Jason Pletsch, Kristin King, Jerry Bourrell, Heather Bachelor, Barbara Martin, Teri Harriman, Trenten Hammond, Misti Mims, Marie Eubanks and many more.
e. The culture has degraded very quickly since the hire of [Redacted] and can be evidenced by the steep increase in the turnover at all levels as listed above. Attempts to give corrective feedback to the CEO have been ignored. It is now abundantly clear that the only way to restore the integrity and trust of HAAR and ValleyMLS.com is to replace [Redacted] with a CEO that respects and understands the needs of the members and subscribers.
