CAMBRIDGE MAYOR NEEDS TO RESIGN OR BE REMOVED

CAMBRIDGE MAYOR NEEDS TO RESIGN OR BE REMOVED
The Issue
The undersigned citizens of Cambridge and Dorchester County and the State of Maryland are petitioning the City Commission to immediately remove Mayor Andrew Bradshaw from his position so that an acting Mayor can serve until a special election is held.
Andrew Bradshaw began his term as mayor of Cambridge, MD in January 2021. On August 4, 2021, police executed a search and seizure warrant at home and city offices. On November 15, 2021, he was arrested for fifty counts of “Revenge Porn” and faces up to 100 years in jail and $250,000 in fines. Bradshaw allegedly posted online multiple nude photographs of a former romantic partner without the permission of the victim along with highly vulgar language and racial slurs.
Why does this matter?
*An elected official charged with such a disgusting and high-profile crime is severely compromised in his ability to fulfill his responsibilities. Due to the nature of these allegations, Bradshaw has profoundly offended and disparaged constituents. Cambridge is about 55% female and about 45% of its citizens are African American. The vile language in these Reddit posts shows someone who has disregard – if not hatred – for women and people of color.
*Within hours of Bradshaw’s arrest, the story of “Revenge Porn in Cambridge MD” became a national and international news sensation, putting a taint of shame on Cambridge. Mayor Bradshaw has yet to apologize to the people of Cambridge for this embarrassment; rather he has insisted that despite this “private matter” he will not leave his office. By refusing to resign from office as requested by our City Council, Bradshaw signals to investors and developers that Cambridge is a contentious and ill-governed community potentially leading them to seek other locales for their businesses. This current situation weakens the city's ability to negotiate with State and Federal agencies. as well as private investors.
The mayor has brought considerable bad publicity to our city. Regardless of the outcome of his trial, his involvement in this scandal is not the leadership our city deserves. While his removal and subsequent special election may be temporarily disruptive, we believe that it is best for the long-term wellbeing of Cambridge and all of Dorchester County.

Thank you.
