Several accidents and countless near misses have occurred at the Dalton Rd and Settlement Road roundabout. This particular junction has proven to be a high-risk area causing substantial vehicle damage, personal injuries, and trauma due to its layout and incessant traffic flow. Surveys indicate an increasing number of accidents occurring at roundabouts (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, 2020).

As part of the Victorian Big Build, the North-East Link will be connecting to the M80 entry/exit on Dalton Road. This will increase road traffic and the dangerous elements of the roundabout will only escalate. It is stressful enough trying to utilise the roundabout and this build will only make it worse.

Replacing the roundabout with traffic lights would assist in streamlining the flow of vehicles, potentially reducing accident rates. Traffic lights provide clear instruction, manage traffic in a timed manner, and have generally lower severity accident rates. 

We plead with Vic Roads, Whittlesea Council and the Victorian Government to prioritize our safety by replacing the dangerous roundabout with a managed traffic light system at the Dalton Rd and Settlement Road intersection.
