To: The Honorable Joseph R. Biden Jr., the President of the United States

Dear President Biden, 

Happy 4th of July! 

You are a good decent man, and have served your country well and nobly. You have saved America by defeating Trump in 2020, but now it is time for you to pass the baton to the next generation who have a much better chance to defeat Trump in 2024. 

You will be remembered in history as one of the best / most consequential presidents IF you follow the great example of President Washington, our founding father, by putting country first and above yourself; OR you will be making the same grave mistake the late-Justice Ginsburg made, i.e. not knowing when to pass the baton.

Despite of her lifetime services and achievements, RBG will be forever remembered for putting her own ego above the country thus enabling Trump & McConnell to cement a 6-3 super conservative majority on the Court, which has not only repeatedly undermined the founding principles of equality, liberty and justice, but also itself become the clear and present danger to the very foundation of our constitutional democratic republic. 

To be honest, RGB's death while in office reminded us of those dictators who did everything they could to hold on power until their last breath. RGB failed her final test. Because of her reckless gamble, we the people have suffered the grave consequence four years and counting … and likely for decades to come. (And Trump & McConnell and the MAGA crowds must have been laughing when you refused to take the strongest approach possible to rebalance the Court. Little wonder we Democrat have the reputation of being weak and inept when the other side has ruthlessly kept eroding the democratic norms and institutions.)

Dear President Biden, the 2024 Election has never been about you, instead, it has always been about having the strongest candidate to unite all fellow Americans together to defeat Trump and Trumpism, which will almost certainly make America the next Weimar Republic if Trump gets into the White House again. 

As the Economist opinion pointed out, using the clear and present danger posted by Trump to force voters to vote for you is tantamount to political blackmail.  At the end of day, it is neither a good sign nor being responsible to put a country’s wellbeing and security, not to mention the most powerful one, on a person who will be 86 at the end of second term, especially when there are so many grave crises around the world from Ukraine to Gaza, from Iran to East Asia, from climate change to immigration. Even if you win, the American people will still worry about your health every day for the next four years. The fact that Trump and Trumpism post the greatest threat to our democracy requires the strongest leadership with vibrant health, mentally and physically, at all times. We the People and our country deserve nothing less.

We all understand you will listen to Dr. Biden, your family and your close friends, all of them likely focus more about you, instead of the country. As a great leader who believes in democracy when a clear majority of Democrats and Independents are eager for a fresh start and a much stronger and energetic voice to defend our democracy and republic, you will be doing the greatest service to our democracy by listening to the voters and put your country first. 

I am sure you remember during the 2020 campaign, you promised to be a transitional leader. I am still holding hope that you will keep your words. Otherwise, you would become just another disheartening example proving power really has a corrupting effect even on a really good and decent man. 

A great leader knows when to stand up, the greatest leader knows when to pass the baton. I am confident you know which example to follow, and hundreds of millions of people of good faith believing in democracy, not only in America, but also around the world, will be forever grateful for your selfless leadership. Or, the consequence of your defiance of reality will likely be the end of our democratic republic.

Update as of July 7:

President Biden, your answer when asked how you would feel if your defiance threw the race to Trump: “As long as I gave it my all and I did the goodest job as I know I can do, that’s what this is about.” This kind of "I will do my best" answer is simply neither good enough nor being responsible at all. You know better than anyone else that (1) this election is about the survival of our democracy,  and (2) you are no longer the candidate who has the best chance to defend our democracy. PLEASE, PUT COUNTRY FIRST.
