The Issue

Students, teachers, and families are already feeling the effects of years of “do more with less.”

Staff members are burning out and leaving. Class sizes are growing. Student supports are stretched thin. Programs and opportunities are under strain while schools are expected to keep absorbing cuts and somehow maintain the same experience for students.

Families see it. Staff feel it. Kids experience it every day.

The community already told the school board what it supports.

Roughly 72% of survey respondents supported investing at least $46/month in our schools. Only a small minority supported the lower-investment options.

Meanwhile, the board’s own materials state that the $32 option still includes millions in cuts and “no new investments.”

$32 does not fix the problem. It stretches the problem out while students, staff, and families continue absorbing the consequences.

The board’s own surveys show:

  • Employee satisfaction in the 5th-10th percentile nationally
  • Parent satisfaction in the 20th percentile nationally
  • Declining confidence in school board leadership
  • Growing concerns about class sizes, staffing strain, student supports, and teacher retention

Frankly, $67 is the amount our schools actually need.

$46 is already the compromise.

It still includes cuts, but it at least begins addressing the staffing, classroom support, and student experience concerns families and staff repeatedly identified throughout the surveys.

Our schools also cannot continue delaying maintenance, safety, technology, infrastructure, and operational needs indefinitely. The Capital Projects Levy is not simply about “buildings.” It helps support safe, functional schools and the systems students and staff rely on every day.

Please sign this petition urging the PLSAS School Board to:

  • Approve the $46 operating levy option
  • Select YES on the Capital Projects Levy
  • Publicly support both levies
  • Prioritize staffing, student supports, classroom experience, and teacher retention
  • Stop pretending ongoing cuts are a long-term solution
  • Invest in the long-term future of our schools instead of continuing to operate in survival mode

Our schools cannot keep cutting programs, burning out teachers, losing staff, and asking students to absorb the consequences.

Please sign and share.
