NO Jail Diversion in South San Jose

NO Jail Diversion in South San Jose
The Issue
Dear Residents of South San Jose,
We are deeply alarmed by Santa Clara County’s covert plans to convert the Emergency Interim Housing (EIH) site at Monterey and Bernal into a jail diversion facility—a proposal that was hidden from both our community and our local representatives. This backroom deal threatens the safety, security, and well-being of our neighborhoods, and we cannot allow it to go forward.
The Unacceptable Proposal:
The idea of placing individuals from the jail diversion program near our homes, schools, and families is a direct threat to our community. South San Jose has already borne the brunt of the city's homelessness challenges, facing rising crime, encampments, fires, and a declining quality of life. Adding a jail diversion site to this burden is not only wrong but an insult to every resident who calls this area home.
Immediate Action Taken:
Within 24 hours of discovering this dangerous proposal, Councilmember Bien Doan and Arjun Batra took decisive action to have it removed from the August 27 agenda. But this fight is not over. We must ensure that this plan is permanently blocked, and that our community is not subjected to further secretive decisions that jeopardize our safety.
Why We Need Your Support:
We need to send a powerful message to the county: Jail diversion sites have no place in South San Jose. We will not allow our community to be treated as a dumping ground. We demand transparency, respect, and safety for our neighborhoods.
How You Can Help:
Sign this petition to show your support for blocking this proposal permanently. Let’s unite as a community and make it clear that we will not stand for decisions that put our families at risk.
Together, we can protect our community and ensure that South San Jose remains a safe and vibrant place to live.
Stand with us and say, “NO to Jail Diversion in South San Jose.”
